    FAQ

  • Can I stain bamboo?
Bamboo can be stained and colorized but it all depends on what type of bamboo you are working with. We recommend rough sanding to remove some of the silica surface. Also applying a gel stain can work well. Other options are to add a tint to polyurethane which can also work well in enhancing the bamboo.
  •

  • Is insect infestation a possibility?
All of our bamboo materials are treated in a variety of safe and natural ways to prevent any insect infestation.
  •

  • Will diameter be the same in the entire length of the bamboo poles?
This depends somewhat on species and length, but as a rule you should expect some variation and tapering since it is a natural material.
  •

  • Will bamboo split if you nail or screw into it?
Yes. However, we pre-drill to prevent splitting or cracking, which eliminates this problem.

    Bamboo Facts

  • Bamboo is a member of the grass family, and has more than 1,500 different species growing in various climates around the world.
  •

  • Bamboo is a highly versatile material. Thomas Edison successfully used a carbonized bamboo filament in his first light bulb! Bamboo survived the Hiroshima atomic blast closer to ground zero than any other living thing, and provided the first re-greening after the blast in 1945.
  •

  • Bamboo has a tensile strength superior to mild steel (withstands up to 52,000 pounds of pressure psi), and has a strength-to-weight ratio surpassing graphite.  It is the strongest woody plant on earth, has over 1,500 different species, and is one of the fastest growing plants in the world, growing up to two inches an hour, or up to one and one half meters per day under certain circumstances.
  •

  • Bamboo provides the fastest growing canopy for the re-greening of degraded lands, and it's stands produce oxygen 365 days per year and release 55% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees.  Bamboo produces between 50 and 100 tons of biomass per hectare acres per year.
